Abstract

Monocytes and macrophages constitute important cellular targets for macrophage-tropic (M-tropic) strains of HIV-1 and are believed to play a major role in the pathogenesis of AIDS. This updated unit provides procedures for culturing HIV in these target cells under suspension and adherent cell culture conditions. The unit also provides methods for expanding M-tropic primary isolates of HIV and determining the 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) of HIV stocks.
