Supporting midwifery education in India
We’re supporting the clinical skills of midwifery educators in India.
Midwives play an important role in maternal health. They support mothers and babies through pregnancy, birth and early infancy.
Good midwifery education relies on teachers having regular opportunities to refresh their skills. But this can be challenging in many settings. To address this, we’re working with midwifery educators in India to develop a sustainable framework for continuous practice. Our aim is to support the quality of midwifery education and improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.
What we're doing
From July 2026 to July 2027, we’re working with local and international partners to co-design, implement and evaluate a practical model that supports ongoing clinical development for midwifery educators.
We're piloting the approach in selected education institutions in India. We’re then exploring the results to understand the:

potential for long-term use.
Using lessons from the project, we're building a scalable framework that can be adapted in other countries and regions.
