A life well lived; a legacy that continues
Ted Deering’s remarkable life spanned 100 years, and his generosity will reach far beyond it.
Ted Deering lived an extraordinary 100 years. His long life was marked by a generosity that extends well beyond his own lifetime.
Ted made his first gift to Burnet Institute in 1993, and this commitment remained important to him throughout his life.
In his final wishes, Ted expressed two things that mattered deeply to him. To be buried alongside his parents, and to support medical research.
There is something very special about these wishes. One speaks to the enduring importance of family and the people who shaped his life. The other looks to the future – to discoveries yet to be made, lives yet to be changed, and the possibility of a healthier world for generations to come.
Ted’s recent bequest to Burnet is now part of that future.
We are deeply grateful for his commitment to medical research, from his first gift more than 30 years ago, to his final act of generosity.
His life may have spanned a century. His legacy has the potential to reach far beyond it.

Thanks to you, young people in Myanmar have somewhere to turn
Your generous support helps create safe community spaces for young people.
Make your Will. Protect what matters.
Having a Will in place is one of the most important things you can do for the people and causes you care about, providing peace of mind and ensuring your wishes are known.
Creating your Will is simple and can be done online, in your own time, with support along the way. Once you’ve provided for those closest to you, you may also wish to consider leaving a gift in your Will to Burnet. Your gift, whatever its size, can help fund life-changing medical research and public health programs, helping create a better, fairer and healthier world for generations to come.
