Background
Julianne completed her PhD at the University of Queensland in 2026 under the supervision of Associate Professor Michelle Boyle, with her research hosted across QIMR-Berghofer and Burnet Institute. Her PhD focused on B cell responses during controlled human malaria infection, including a clinical trial investigating the immunomodulatory drug ruxolitinib.
Julianne now continues her research with Michelle, investigating CD4+ T cell responses in the human spleen – an important reservoir for malaria parasites. Her current work aims to develop an in vitro spleen model to screen drugs with the potential to enhance immunity against malaria.
