Working groups
Background
Professor Sarah Larney's research focuses on the epidemiology and prevention of drug-related harms, particularly blood-borne viral infections and overdose. Prior to her appointment as co-head of the Alcohol and Other Drugs working group at Burnet, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the Université de Montréal and Principal Researcher at the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal.
Sarah's contributions to the field include findings related to drug use and treatment of opioid dependence among older adults; work documenting the onset of Canada's overdose epidemic in Québec (delayed relative to the rest of Canada); and novel findings relating to sex and gender differences in hepatitis C among people who inject drugs. Her work has influenced opioid treatment delivery in Australia, the United States and Canada.
