Health Security and Pandemic Preparedness

Strong public health systems reduce vulnerability to infectious diseases.

Burnet’s Health Security and Pandemic Preparedness Program works to increase the capacities of health systems across the Asia-Pacific region.

Major components of this Program are aimed at improving responses to drug-resistant tuberculosis, strengthening policies and practices to prevent and control antimicrobial resistance, and applying One Health approaches to improve health for humans, animals and the environment.

Through this program Burnet is committing to making a major contribution:

  • To improve understanding of infectious disease threats and apply new tools to improve health security
  • To contribute to strengthening core public health system capacities required to prepare for and respond to infectious disease threats in the Asia-Pacific region
  • To make a major contribution to respond to tuberculosis, especially drug resistant tuberculosis, in the Asia-Pacific region
  • To increase the capacity of health professionals, researchers, policy makers and the general community in relation to health security, through education and training in Australia, our region and globally.
