The OCP HCC Study: liver cancer optimal care pathway

Past project

Cancer Council has outlined best practice guidelines for the liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC) cascade of care. However, whether timely HCC care is provided in Australia in accordance with OCP HCC guidelines is unknown.

Objective

We aim to describe:

  • the HCC cascade of care in Victoria, from GP referral, diagnosis, multidisciplinary team discussion to treatment
  • factors associated with timely adherence to the OCP HCC cascade of care recommendations.

Timeline

2018–2024.

Approach

This is a prospective longitudinal cohort study.

Community impact

Survival rates in HCC are low compared to other cancers.

Understanding the HCC cascade of care in Victoria and barriers and enablers to timely HCC care are crucial to inform health services interventions to improve timely treatment for people living with HCC to improve survival.
