On behalf of Burnet Institute, deputy director, programs, Professor Margaret Hellard AM acknowledged with deep sadness the passing of Naomi Burke-Shyne, former executive director of Harm Reduction International.
"Naomi was a respected collaborator and a passionate advocate for the rights and health of people who use drugs," she said.
"Her unwavering commitment to challenging the institutions that perpetuate harm through the criminalisation of drug use had a profound impact in Australia and around the world."
