Burnet 2030 Strategy
Our strategy for greater impact in a rapidly changing world.
At Burnet, we are helping to create the future of health.
The Burnet 2030 Strategy focuses on growing our impact, placing equity at the centre of what we do, and paying close attention to the effects of a rapidly changing climate and environment.
Our point of difference is our technical breadth–from laboratory-based discoveries to field research, to commercialisation to development programs; all to progress toward a more equitable world.
This is what sets us apart.

The future of health is...
- Diseases eliminated.
- Healthy women, children and adolescents.
- A more prepared world.
- Harm reduction.
- For all people.
Our priorities for future impact
Research programs
- Strengthened and better resourced interdisciplinary programs; technically diverse experts working together to solve global health problems.
- A sharper focus on 3 core programs:
- Disease Elimination
- Health Security and Pandemic Preparedness
- Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health.
- Increased investment in our flagship initiatives:
Environment
- Creating an environment with the resources, capability, and conviction to undertake and support world class research and programs.
- Strengthen operations in 3 priority countries: Australia, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea.
- The new Strategy Insights and Impact Office provides an enhanced focus on strategy implementation, alignment, and performance measurement and reporting.
- A Foundation Partner in the groundbreaking Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID), a purpose-built facility and Burnet’s new home will strengthen our ability to deliver.
People
- Being the aspirational workplace within the sector with ethical values and a culture committed to fostering talent for future leadership and rewarding careers.
- Investing in job security, gender equity, our Reconciliation Action Plan, and creating opportunities for emerging scientists.
- Building a culture based on our key values of respect, equality, inclusiveness and diversity.
Interdisciplinary thematic health programs
Burnet 2030 places interdisciplinary thematic health programs at the heart of our daily decision-making. Our refined program structure builds on our technical breadth to maximise our impact. Find out more about Burnet's structure.
