Bek joined Burnet in 2022 as a Research Assistant on SuperMix: The Melbourne Injecting Drug User study. Coordinating the study's fieldwork,
Bek works closely with the community to capture information on participant injecting drug use, health and behaviours. Bek has extensive experience working with socially disadvantaged communities and has a growing interest in behaviours and health risks, particularly surrounding drug use and the subsequent effects on women's health.
MIXMAX is the largest active cohort study of people who use drugs in Australia. It combines 2 pre-existing studies: SuperMIX and VMAX.
The Drugs Trends Program includes the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) and the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS).
The VMAX cohort study follows 850 people who use methamphetamine recruited from metropolitan Melbourne and 3 regions of rural Victoria.
