Professor Emma McBryde

Professor of Infectious Diseases

Professor Emma McBryde

Background

Professor Emma McBryde is a research leader in infectious diseases modelling, specialising in translating complex transmission and within-host dynamics into practical tools for policy and public health action.

Emma's work spans tuberculosis, vector-borne diseases and respiratory pathogens, with a strong focus on forecasting, evaluating interventions, and supporting decision-makers in high-burden and resource-constrained settings. Emma combines mathematical modelling, epidemiology and data science to generate evidence that informs real-world strategies.

At Burnet, Emma collaborates across disciplines to develop innovative, scalable modelling platforms that strengthen health systems and guide effective, equitable responses to infectious disease threats.
