In Papua New Guinea, 1500+ women die every year from childbirth-related causes – 80 times higher than in Australia. And these deaths are, mostly, preventable.

This one stop service and outreach model provides a comprehensive package of services at the drop in centre (DIC). Services include; needle & syringe exchange and provision, counselling services, HIV and STI screening and treatment, condom distribution, safe sex and behaviour change education, referral to methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) and other health services.
Primary health care services are provided at the DIC as well as through peer educators, mobile medical teams and counsellors. Areas addressed include general health related ailments, symptomatic treatment of withdrawal symptoms, screening for Hepatitis B and C and vaccination for Hepatitis B.
The enabling environment is supported through coordination and planning with project beneficiaries, local service providers, including community-based organisations and the townships health system in a number of areas. These are:
