Our proud history: from HIV and beyond

Everyone has the right to a healthy life. This fundamental belief has underpinned the work of Burnet Institute from our earliest days as a virology laboratory, to our current role as a globally recognised medical research institute. Over the years, we've pioneered new approaches to prevention and care, delivered life-changing medical innovations, and promoted policies to address health inequities.
