Tragically, more than 1500 mothers and 5000 newborns die each year from preventable causes in PNG.
Pele Melepia, Burnet’s local team leader of the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies program in Kokopo, talks about why she is involved in this ground-breaking initiative.
This year, instead of the usual flowers and chocolates, give your mum a hug and tell her you have donated to Burnet’s HMHB program to help save mums and newborns in PNG. Bring a smile to a mum’s face.
By Mother’s Day next year, another 1500 young mums will have died in PNG, more than 5,000 babies won’t have lived past the first month of life, and another 7,000 children would have perished before they reach their 5th birthday. Help save lives today.
