Burnet Chairman, Alastair Lucas AM has been appointed a Director of Research Australia.

Research Australia is a national not-for-profit alliance of organisations and companies that are committed to making health and medical research a higher national priority.

Mr Lucas, who is also the Chairman, Investment Banking Goldman Sachs Australia, has a long and distinguished association with the medical research sector through the Burnet Institute.

Mr Lucas said he was delighted to join the Research Australia Board and looked forward to making a positive contribution towards achieving a higher national priority for health and medical research.

Research Australia was created following the 1999 Wills Review that was chaired by Peter Wills AC. In 2012, another comprehensive review of the sector was undertaken and the McKeon Review final report is yet to be released.

Among Research Australia’s strategic priorities is embedding research into the health system to increase translation of evidence into clinical practice and lifting the quality of the health care delivered.

They are also aiming to build investment from all sectors, government, industry, traditional capital markets, private equity, and philanthropy for research activities.
