World TB Day 2021 - The Clock is Ticking

World TB Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the burden of TB worldwide and the status of TB prevention and control efforts.

The theme of World TB Day 2021 – The Clock is Ticking – is a reminder the world is running out of time to act on the commitments to end TB made by global leaders.

This is especially critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that has put End TB progress at risk, and to ensure equitable access to prevention and care in line with the drive by the World Health Organization (WHO) towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Tuberculosis (TB) has killed more people than any other infectious disease in history. In 2019, an estimated 10 million people fell ill with TB, resulting in 1.4 million deaths, and 465,000 people fell ill with drug-resistant TB (DR-TB), according to WHO.

The key goals of Burnet’s Eliminate TB program are:

  • Working towards the global targets to eliminate TB as a public health threat by 2030 through partnerships, community engagement, technical assistance to national programs, and accelerating the implementation of innovation and research.
  • Developing and evaluating new tools, technologies and strategies for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care, through discovery, translational and operational research.

You can help by donating to Burnet’s research programs.
