World AIDS Day is commemorated on 1 December each year.

It raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS, and it’s a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to honour and acknowledge people who have died.

Burnet’s HIV researchers and public health professionals working in HIV prevention and treatment will be supporting a range of activities across Victoria, and in our international project areas in Myanmar and Papua New Guinea.

More than 36 million people are living with HIV and AIDS, including more than 26,400 Australians.

Its been more than 30 years since its emergence, yet it remains one of the greatest challenges to human health with an estimated 1.8 million people losing their lives to AIDS-related illnesses each year.

HIV is a major focus of research at Burnet. You can make a donation to support our groundbreaking HIV research and prevention today.
