International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is a global day of recognition and celebration held each year on 8 March, but also an opportunity to raise awareness for greater equality.

The campaign theme for IWD 2018 is #PressforProgress towards gender parity.

Burnet Institute proudly supports IWD activities each year. The Women of Burnet come together to share in our goal to create meaningful change for women, particularly those from poor and vulnerable communities in Australia and internationally.

We also join millions around the world in raising awareness of health equality as a basic human right.

It’s also a time of reflection and celebration of the Institute’s achievements in women’s health and its commitment to raise awareness of health equality as a basic human right.

International Women’s Day was honoured for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March 1911.

More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.

IWD has grown to become a day of recognition and celebration across the world.
