News & Events Support Our WorkWe urgently need to raise $260,000 for Burnet’s first super-resolution microscope. We hope you can help.
Legacies and bequests have assisted many of our laboratories and health programs through direct gifts in the wills of alumni, friends and supporters.
Bequests don’t need to be large amounts.
$500 can train a group of midwives in Laos, building the capacity of their community and improving mothers and children’s lives for generations to come.
Apart from a traditional bequest through your will there are several other tax effective methods to make an earlier gift to Burnet.
Click on one of the boxes above – Making a Bequest, Annuities, Living Wills or Estate Planning – to find out more information.
A traditional bequest can take many forms, and your legal representative is the best person to explain these options to you. You should always consult a financial planner or legal representative before making any changes to your affairs.
Some terms your legal representative may mention are:
A residuary gift – This is the gift of all or part of the value of your estate, after debts, other legacies and liabilities have been met. This has the advantage of automatically keeping up with inflation.
A monetary legacy – You can also choose to leave a sum of money, also known as a pecuniary gift, which you can arrange to be increased in line with inflation.
A specific legacy or gift in kind – This is the gift of something valuable like a property, a piece of jewellery or stocks and shares.
Donating or selling a small parcel of your share portfolio is made easy with ShareGift Australia who allow you to make a gift to Burnet with no brokerage fees.
A reversionary legacy – This gift has the advantage of providing for your family first and then benefiting the Institute. So when the original beneficiary dies, the gift in your will reverts to Burnet, as you specify.
Burnet is extremely grateful that you may consider us in your Estate Planning, however, you should always consult a financial planner or legal representative before making any changes to your affairs.
Every donation makes a difference to the lives of poor and vulnerable communities where we work
