Outcomes of recent Appeals

Thanks to generous community support in 2010 and 2011, we have been able to acquire new cutting-edge laboratory equipment and also improve the health of vulnerable mothers and their children in Papua New Guinea.

Apart from funds which were donated for specific projects, our appeals have helped the following areas:

2011 Equipment Appeal

  • Amount raised: $150,000

  • Outcomes: Gifts made as part of the 2011 Equipment Appeal helped us purchase a high-performance centrifuge as well as much-needed microscopes for our scientists.

2010 Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Appeal

  • Amount raised: $60,000

  • Outcomes: As a result of the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Appeal, we have been able to train village health workers in remote parts of Papua New Guinea to assist women in labour and deliver important childhood vaccinations.

2010 Equipment Appeal Appeal

  • Amount raised: 115,000

  • Outcomes: The 2010 Equipment Appeal led to the acquisition of three new autoclave machines, which enable our scientists to effectively sterilise laboratory equipment.

2010 Melbourne City Romp

  • Amount raised: $118,000

  • Outcomes: All money raised through the 2010 Melbourne City Romp went directly to Burnet’s fight against The ‘Big Three’: HIV, TB and malaria, some of the world’s worst infectious diseases.
