Our work in Bali since 2002 has produced remarkable results.  Burnet is now viewed in Indonesia as having developed the gold standard in HIV counselling and support services.  With ANCP support, we developed an approach to HIV counselling and networking between community groups and government services that has been widely acknowledged as the best in the country and has been adapted at the national level.

There is still much work to be done with our local partners who are now applying the counselling skills they have acquired through the training and mentoring we have provided over the last five years.  Building their capacity to effectively and efficiently manage programs that provide counselling services is still required.

In 2006 counsellors identified stigma and discrimination against their clients and inadequate understanding of HIV by medical practitioners as major issues needing to be addressed. After several consultations with relevant stakeholders, Burnet is now workng with medical doctors in Bali to build their clinical knowledge and skills related to HIV prevention, care, support and treatment.
