A health seminar was held in Melbourne from 17 - 19 April 2007. The aim was to help Pacific Islanders develop better strategies for strengthening their local health systems. This is an effort to combat the growing rate of HIV, and reduce the spread of disease and the rate of infant mortality in poor Pacific communities. The Centre for International Health  with the support of AusAid - invited delegates from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia and Palau, to focus on developing high quality local health care as a foundation for an effective national health care system.
