The Victorian Consortium for Public Health comprises four of Victoria's leading universities: Deakin, La Trobe, Monash and The University of Melbourne. The Master of Public Health is coordinated by the Consortium, combining the specialised fields and experience of each university. The MPH is designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct public health research: to develop, analyse and implement policy and to plan and evaluate health services.
Part 1 of the MPH comprises units taught at a single venue by each of the partners in the Consortium, comprising units that give a broad understanding of public health.
Part 2 of the MPH comprises units of specialisation taught by the university of enrolment.
The International Health stream (Part 2 units of specialisation) is offered through Monash University.
Course Structure:
The Master of Public Health - International Health requires the completion of twelve units of study. The course comprises six Part 1 units. The course can be completed in three semesters of full-time study, or on a part-time basis over three years. In Part 2, students are required to complete a further six units, including Primary Health Care in Developing Countries and Field Methods for International Health Planning and Evaluation.
The course runs full time for 16 months over three semesters. Students are required to select 12 units from the following list. The course structure can be adjusted to suit individual requirements and would be negotiated with the course coordinator at time of enrolment. Core units are compulsory.
