Dr Sue Crockett (1947 - 2004)

Dr Sue Crockett passed away on the 29th of August 2004 after a short but intense illness.

Sue was more than a medical doctor who led the way in the response to HIV in the developing world (particularly PNG]),  Sue Crockett was someone who cared and cared enormously!

From her time as a medical doctor for the Victorian Youth Training Centres and her 10+ years at the Collingwood Community Health Clinic, Sue was about people and she loved and believed in the people. Her humanity, her passion and philosophy that everyone is worthwhile, everyone is of value, is something we all aspire to, yet she lived it by her nature.

Her achievements in leading the response to HIV, especially in PNG are her legacy, gained through hard work, courage, humility, and kindness. She lived in Port Moresby, she worked for and with the people of PNG and loved the country and its people. Her compassion and kindness did not stop at the workplace as she supported everyone whom she saw in need. Her work and her commitment impacted on the lives of many people in PNG and her passing has been deeply mourned and honored with a special service.

As a health professional Sue was a teacher, a mentor, a role model. She had a profound impact on so many people, inspiring others by her actions, her passion and her commitment to social justice and her moral courage to live the life she believed in.

All with a keen and joyous sense of humour, gaiety and fun, and a great and easily provoked laugh, and a beautiful smile, of warmth and compassion.

Your friends and colleagues at Burnet and throughout the health and development community thank you Sue, thank you for you, thank you for showing us how to be the best we can be.
