The Centre is committed to the values of social justice and equity and to a belief in maximising human potential. We seek to strengthen the resilience of communities to health threats through genuine partnerships that build knowledge, skills, and self-confidence.

We believe that in our health development work it is important to analyse local needs rigorously, share information, build local capacity and enabling environments, promote interventions based on evidence, apply sustainable forms of technology and evaluate in a participatory way.   We recognise the need for communities to plan, implement, and evaluate their own health programs. We understand that facilitating this process requires our staff to have specific technical skills, empathy, contextual understanding, and experience of working with communities.

We recognise the extraordinary development challenge posed by the global HIV epidemic and are committed to supporting a comprehensive, multi-sectoral response.  We are also aware of the need to take into account the influence on families and communities of changing contexts, including the demographic transition, urbanisation, and new roads and railways.
