Burnet will join the international community in marking the significance of World Health Day as a day of observance.
Ageing and health
Over the past century, life expectancy has increased dramatically and the world will soon have more older people than children.
Less-developed countries are witnessing the fastest change. This social transformation represents both challenges and opportunities. Some countries may only have a single generation to prepare their health and social systems for an ageing world.

Every year, World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organisation in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of concern for WHO. The topic of World Health Day in 2012 is Ageing and Health. Dr Dharmapriya Wesumperuma, Regional Head of Programs – East Asia/Pacific, HelpAge International, an international NGO that helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty.
