Applying for a PhD: International Students

1. Decide what you are interested in.
Check out Burnet’s website to read up on our current projects and areas of research.

2. Contact potential supervisors
If you find a specific project or group of interest, e-mail the supervisors to discuss further. Also forward them your most recent academic transcript and current resume.

3. Select a university department
You need to be enrolled in a PhD program at a university in Victoria. Entry requirements at all universities include a combination of academic qualifications, English language skills and professional work and/or research experience.

Check out university websites about specific requirements for enrolment into their PhD programs and confirm that you are eligible to apply.

4. Review potential research scholarships
Check out the scholarships available on the various university websites. The closing date for scholarships is usually 31 October. JASON, a nation-wide postgraduate scholarship database, also provides current information to international students wishing to study in Australia. If you satisfy the entry requirements apply to the respective university for a scholarship.

5. Apply for entry to the PhD program
Contact the PhD coordinator at your chosen university department.
